This weaving is a tribute to the unassuming yet beautiful rainbow trout. I have always loved the beauty of subtle color gradients that can be found on fish scales and skin. Fish have always been a meaningful motif in my upbringing. My grandpa is an avid freshwater fisherman and breeds tropical fish in his home in Eau Claire. I’ve always been inspired by the passion the members of my family exhibit for the things and people they love. This waffle weave scarf took many hours and lots of care to complete and I hope the love put into the process is reflected in the final piece. Skin is a textile that we often don’t think about in that exact language. Once skin is a textile it becomes leather which is why I found translating fish skin into a woven piece to be an especially interesting challenge.
